Tip to Make the Transition to Gray Easier

Are you still on the fence about going gray?  I would like to give you a tip if you are currently still dying your hair and you are specifically dying your hair with a permanent dye.  As you may or may not know, there are three dye types:

·       Permanent – this permanently changes your hair, so once the grays start growing out, there is a very stark demarcation line.  A developer is involved and this lifts the cuticle to deposit the color into the hair, which causes the most damage out of these options.

·       Demi-permanent - this is a temporary solution and will last many more shampoos than the semi-permanent, but it still uses a low-volume developer, so this still does lift the cuticle, but it is not as damaging as permanent.

·       Semi-permanent - this is a temporary solution and will last fewer shampoos than demi-permanent, but it does not use a developer, so it is not damaging at all to your hair.

My tip is to consider switching to the semi-permanent option.  You will notice that when the grays come in, the dye has already started to lift and it has a much more softened line of demarcation.  Also, when you decide to stop coloring your hair, this type of dye will lift from the hair much easier.

The one difference is that you do not necessarily get full coverage of your grays, but instead your grays will come out a bit lighter than the rest of your hair.  I personally didn’t mind that, because it looked like highlights and gave the hair more dimension.
